It was my intention to capture the beauty and bounty of midsummer in our garden here at B&B Casa Capanni in the late afternoon sunshine. Earlier that day, we (my beautiful sister and I) had gone to the local market to buy fresh seasonal produce such as grapes and blueberries and some cheese and flowers. Afterwards we created this lovely, relaxing picnic in the olive grove in Casa Capanni’s garden, and our adorable little Shi Tzu called ‘Bailey’ joined us. I am amazed at how film captures beauty so much better than a digital camera. These frozen moments seem more real and yet more dream-like at the same time, reminding me of ‘Alice in Wonderland’. As my sister loves children and children love her, I thought this quote from Alice in Wonderland reflects this session completely: “Lastly, she pictured to herself how this same little sister of hers would, in the after-time, be herself a grown woman; and how she would keep, through all her riper years, the simple and loving heart of her childhood: and how she would gather about her other little children, and make their eyes bright and eager with many a strange tale, perhaps even with the dream of Wonderland of long ago: and how she would feel with all their simple sorrows, and find a pleasure in all their simple joys, remembering her own child-life, and the happy summer days.” (from ‘Alice in Wonderland’ by Lewis Carroll) ” – Rosanne
