At Belle Lumière, we are always drawn to photographers who tell stories not only with incredible artistry (seriously, these images are magical), but with a deep sense of presence. Becca Allen is one such photographer; a gifted visual storyteller whose work captures both the intimacy of motherhood and the soul of a place. Based in Germany and serving families around the world, Becca brings a thoughtful, connection-focused approach to every session she takes on.
We are honoured to share her destination session in Ireland, documenting a quiet spring evening with fellow photographer Liz Novi and her family. In Becca’s own words:
“I am a family and motherhood photographer, currently living in Germany, but serving destinations worldwide. I was honored to be asked by talented photographer, Liz Novi, to document an evening of their family’s spring holiday in Ireland. With all destination sessions, my goal is to document moments of connection – while honoring the beauty of the surroundings that called us there.”
“We met for the evening at Rahinnane Castle, built during the 15th or 16th century, on land once owned by Vikings. Surrounded by fields filled with grazing sheep, with a hint of a view of the ocean, we had a quiet evening to ourselves. We explored the moss-covered ruins, letting the children climb the old stone walls and peek through sun-filled windows. It wasn’t hard to imagine life in the surrounding hills carrying on similarly for centuries before us.”
“We then headed to the very edge of the Dingle Peninsula to enjoy the sunset over the Blasket Islands. The views were awe-inspiring – wild and untamed – the kind that make you feel small, but grateful to be there. The feel of the soft earth beneath our feet, the smell of the salty air, the chill of the cool winds, and the sound of the children’s voices as they took it all in were all so distinct. My hope is this family can sense them all again when they look back on these photographs for years to come.”
Becca’s photographs carry the kind of quiet magic that can only come from deep observation and deep care. You can explore more of her work at beccaallenphotography.com or on Instagram at @beccaallenphotography.
