” Every year I stare in awe at the gorgeous magnolias that bloom here in Ohio. This year I refused to let them pass me by. So I took one of my favorite clients, Courtney, who happened to already own the perfect dress, and photographed her at sunrise in and around this glorious tree. She did her own hair and makeup, I gave her a pretty little antique bracelet to wear, and that was it. I wanted to focus on the light and color rather than props and fancy gear. I shot these with an old Mamiya 645 I inherited from my husband’s uncle and had only played with once before. Ektar 100 was the only film I could grab last minute at the camera store, so I shot with slow shutter speeds and made some processing decisions at the end. I had these processed at The Find Lab and scanned with a Noritsu to combat the green shadows I knew I would have. Most images were shot at 1/60th to 1/125th of a second at 2.8, some as slow at 1/30th. This session changed me forever. It forced me to slow down, to absorb every detail around me and to create. ” – Alison
