Every now and then, a submission arrives that feels less like a session and more like a memory. That’s how this submission from Beth Hicks of B Lauren Photography felt. A warm afternoon, three barefoot girls, a glowing mother awaiting her fourth child, and a lake that called to them just before the sun slipped behind the hills.
Beth’s work carries a softness, but there’s a strength underneath it too, the kind that honours motherhood in its fullness. When she shared that the mother in these frames, Kailyn, is a fellow photographer herself, it made sense. There’s a shared language between artists that comes through in these images. The trust. The quiet understanding. The freedom to let it unfold.
Photographed on film and scanned by Rewind Film Lab, the tones are as gentle and golden as the evening they depict. The session began with simple portraiture, a family wrapped in love and the stillness of expectancy, and ended with sandy hems and water-slicked curls as the girls danced into the lake. It’s the kind of spontaneous, joy-filled ending that can’t be staged. And it’s clear that Beth didn’t just capture it, she felt it.
There’s a reason we turn to film to tell these stories. Not just for its texture or timelessness, but for the way it slows us down. Encourages us to notice. Helps us see not just how things looked, but how they felt.
Beth’s session with this family is a beautiful reminder of what matters: light on skin, hands held tight, laughter echoing across water, and a family on the edge of becoming more.
We’re honoured to share it here.

Beautiful photos, which the family will reminisce those days their whole life. Beth captures innocence… very elusive and especially hard to pose young children. Thank you for this description of her work, and for the family to share their photos.
