” We found Stockholm to be the perfect destination for the urban traveller who enjoys culture, fashion and design and also seeks an idyllic natural setting. The city itself is built on 14 islands, being part of a greater archipelago of 30,000. In other words, there’s a lot of water, green forests are nearby, and the quality of light is just  magic. It’s great either for a long weekend – hopping from cafés, stores and exhibitions – or your point of arrival and departure to further explore Sweden.

You have to choose between the extremities of seasons and light. In summer, there is the endless midsummer light when it never really gets dark (just 3 hrs from dusk til dawn!), swimming in the waters, enjoying the terraces, outdoor concerts and theatre. This is what we chose and we share with you photos of our summer holiday spent in Stockholm. You can further extend your stay by staying at a lakeside cottage, enjoy kayaking and sailing as well. ! We are super lucky to have some great friends living in Stockholm, which is obviously the best way to travel and be guided to the right areas. Favourite place was the garden café at Rosendals Trädgard on the island Djurgarden where we lazed around in the sun for hours. For us we also couldn’t get enough of the island Sodermalm which has a great vibe with small coffee shops, vintage and fashion concept stores. Most of the adresses below are around metro Mariatorget, Slussen, and SoFo (literally South Folkungatan).!

For those of you who can’t wait until the next summer, there is also the snow covered winter, when the city is lit up with candles on every window sill, cozy interiors with fireplaces, and you can go ice skating on the frozen waters. If you decide to visit then, it is a must to embark on a trip further north to Lapland in search for the aurora borealis, adventures of husky sledge riding, and to visit the yearly designed and constructed Ice Hotel -one of Naoko’s most memorable trips to date. ” – Yann
